The Mountain Zebra Wilderness Corridor project focused on a broad area of 530 000 hectares surrounding and linking Mountain Zebra National Park and the Camdeboo National Park existing reserves.

The uMngeni River catchment falls within the Maputaland–Pondoland–Albany biodiversity hotspot and has been identified as part of the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands Key Biodiversity Area and focuses on ecological infrastructure and restoration.
